Python(x, y) 2.7.3.1 Released!

Hi All,

We are happy to announce that Python(x, y) 2.7.3.1 is available for immediate download. We should all thank the diligent people of McAfee for flagging autoconsole.exe as a virus - that was the last of the old AutoIt binaries.

Some notable changes:
  • SQLAlchemy has been re-packaged - it was completely unusable.
  • The main installation was tweaked so that the uninstaller will erase _all_ possible locations of Python(x, y) registry keys. This should finally rid of those annoying install issues.
  • uncertenties joined Python(x, y) as a core plugin.
  • Numerous additional plugin were updated (visvis now comes with ffmpeg and freetype).
There are several major enhancements which are on the table:
  1. Make Python itself a plugin - allowing for a non admin install.
  2. 64 bit version.
  3. Fix and expand the installer command line to allow setting: all/user install, target paths, package selection etc.
  4. Add support for installation and updates of XY plugins and PyPi packages from the web.
  5. Add support for virtualenv creation and management.
  6. Eliminate duplicate dependencies between packages - have just once instance of each (Zlib, bzip2, libpng, etc).

    The installer doesn´t work. It gives some NSIS_Error.
    Any solution??

    Apologies if this is a dumb question but I am new to python: I try to install this version and it says that I need to install version 2.7.3.0 first, but I don't see anywhere on the Python(x,y) site to download 2.7.3.0. Help? Thanks.

      Thanks! I see my mistake now: I had clicked the link under updates instead of at the top of the. Since the links both said 2.7.3.1 I thought they were the same...

      Just installed Python(x,y) and it looks like exactly what this IDL-user needs to make the switch!

    Is there anyway to update the v.2.7.2.3 to 2.7.3.0 and then apply this update to 2.7.3.1?

    If not, which is the best method? Uninstall previous 2.7.2.3 and then install 2.7.3.1 from scratch? Or install everything on top of the previous version?

    I'd love to find an easier way to migrate from major versions...

    Obviously I like your web site, but you have to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
